Make your business easier to find with an accurate profile, useful service pages and sensible enquiry tracking.

Confirm the business is eligible

Local search helps people find a real business serving a place or area. Start by checking Google Business Profile eligibility and representation rules. A website alone does not make every organization eligible for a local listing, and a profile should not invent a storefront or office to appear in another city.

For an eligible service business, distinguish where customers can visit from where the business travels to customers. Follow Google's address and service-area rules for the actual operation. Describe the areas actually served and make it clear whether customers can visit, request a callout or book an appointment.

Make the profile accurate and useful

Use the real business name, appropriate categories, opening hours and a working contact route. Keep special hours up to date. Google describes local ranking in terms of relevance, distance and prominence or popularity; you cannot purchase a better organic local ranking from Google. Accurate information helps people determine whether the business fits their need.

Add genuine photographs and descriptions of actual services. Respond to reviews professionally without revealing private customer details. Avoid adding promotional keywords to the business name or creating duplicate profiles for the same operation. A tidy, accurate profile is more useful than one overloaded with unsupported claims.

Give the website a page worth landing on

Connect the profile to a page that clearly explains the relevant service, location or service area, hours and how to make contact. On a phone, check that a visitor can read the information and use the contact link without navigating through decorative sections. Keep the website and profile consistent when details change.

A business with two real staffed locations may need useful pages for both. That is different from generating dozens of near-identical city pages for places where it has no meaningful presence. Explain what customers actually need to know about each location rather than changing only a place name in a template.

Track useful actions without over-collecting

Decide what success means before adding analytics: a qualified enquiry, a booking or a request for directions may matter more than page views. Use the profile's available performance reporting and, after ownership verification, Search Console for website search visibility. These systems measure different things and should not be expected to match exactly.

If you add a campaign parameter to the profile's website link, keep the landing page's canonical on the clean URL. Check that redirects preserve the intended destination. Choose any website analytics with privacy and consent requirements in mind; do not paste customer names, phone numbers or message contents into event labels.

Review changes on a sensible schedule

Keep a monthly record of profile accuracy, broken links, enquiries and relevant search queries. Annotate changes such as new hours, a revised service page or a period when the phone line was unavailable. Local results vary by searcher's position and query, so one manual search is not a reliable ranking report.

Focus on the problems the evidence reveals. If visitors find the page but cannot tell whether the business serves their area, improve that explanation. If enquiries arrive but are unsuitable, clarify the service scope. Local SEO is ongoing information quality and discoverability work, not a guarantee of first place or a reason to manufacture locations.
